Lenovo’s ThinkPad T Series has long been known as the gold standard for businessnotebooks. The ThinkPad T410 is the latest revision of the popular T-series ThinkPad from Lenovo. If you're looking for a workhorse business notebook, the Lenovo ThinkPad T410 is a great choice.

Lenovo ThinkPad T410 Review

Lenovo ThinkPad T410 Specs:
Windows 7 Professional (64bit)
Intel Core i5-540M (2.53GHz, 3MB Cache)
4GB DDR3 RAM (2GB + 2GB)
320GB Seagate 7400.4 HDD (7200rpm)
14.1-inch WXGA+ (1440 x 900) LED Backlit (Matte finish)
94Wh 9-cell, 90W 20V AC adapter
Dimensions (HWD): 1.25x13.1x9.4 inches
2.0 megapixel webcam

The system measures in at a substantial 13.1 x 9.4 x 1.1-1.26 inches and has a starting weight of 5.2 pounds. It is nearly equivalent in size and weight to the Lenovo ThinkPad T400 and the HP EliteBook 8440w.  As expected from a business machine, the ThinkPad T410 has a full set of ports: four USB, an eSATA port, a DisplayPort connector, a VGA output, and a headphone/mic combo. A SmartCard reader, multi-card reader, and ExpressCard slot are all onboard, while the DisplayPort and VGA-Out give you two options for presenting on an external monitor or projector. The port layout has significantly changed to allow an increase in available ports and even a few new types of connections.

The T410 runs on a 2.53GHz Intel Core i5-540M processor and has an even speedier Core i7-620M option (a $70 upgrade). Along with 4GB of DDR3 memory, the laptop delivers competitive application performance. Performance felt peppy during anecdotal testing, even under heavy multitasking scenarios. And with its extended-cell battery, the ThinkPad T410 runs for nearly 6 hours on a single charge.

The screens offered on the ThinkPad T410 have changed very little compared to ones offered on the T400. The laptop’s 14.1-inch LED backlit screen is available in two resolutions, 1280 x 800 and 1440 x 900. At full brightness, the image remains viewable in direct sunlight. Movies and photos look crisp and vivid, and the audio from the two speakers that flank the keyboard is passable for movies and YouTube if you're seated directly in front of the laptop. The webcam offers strong solid images, even in low light. When using the camera in our dimly lit living room, images were sharp and clear.

The T410 has the same redesigned keyboard that we saw debut on the T400s. It feature the strong tactile feel which made Lenovo famous, along with new, enlarged Esc and Del keys. Like most ThinkPads, the T410 features both a TrackPoint pointing stick and a touchpad. The ThinkPad T410 proudly continues this tradition; the keys offer just the right amount of travel and don't wobble even when your finger hits them off-center.

Lenovo B470 Review

The Lenovo B470 features an all-black matte plastic design with textured horizontal lines on its display lid. Ports are good and plenty, including 4 USB 2.0 ports (one of which is an eSATA/ USB combo drive), VGA, Ethernet, HDMI, 6-in-1 card reader, audio ports, and optical dirve (Blu-ray option). The ports the selection lacks is a SuperSpeed 3.0 slot and ExpressCard.

The Lenovo B470 has a 14.0-inch glossy display with a 720p (1366x768) resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio. The screen has a 1366 by 768 resolution for 720p HD viewing, but not True 1080p HD—unless you hook it up to your HDTV via the HDMI port. It is glossy, something which will not be very appreciated by the businessmen. Viewing angles are not the best but since B470 is not being targeted as a multimedia laptop, we are not complaining.

The keyboard is in the chiclet style, but has Lenovo's own added twist with the keys having a slightly concave design. Keys are smooth and round off at the bottom. The typing experience is pleasant with a great feel due to the smoothness of keys.

The notebook is powered by the second generation Core i5 2410M sandy bridge processor.  Lenovo B470 scored 5895 in the PCmark Vantage benchmark test, which is good enough for a student or a business laptop.  We were able to get close to 6.5 hours of battery life with brightness was set to 50 percent in our Wi-Fi web browsing test. The "Essential" B470 notebook is a decent purchase if you're in need of a laptop for your office or school work.
